Know Your Limits

It's important to know your limits when swimming to avoid accidents and injuries. Swimming can be physically demanding, especially if you are not an experienced swimmer or are swimming in unfamiliar water. Here are some tips to help you know your limits when swimming:

  • Start Slow: If you're new to swimming or haven't swum in a while, take it easy at the beginning and gradually build up your endurance. Don't push yourself too hard too soon, as this can lead to exhaustion or injury.

  • Take Breaks: If you feel tired or out of breath, take a break and rest for a few minutes. It's essential to pace yourself when swimming to avoid exhaustion.

  • Know the Water: Be aware of the water conditions and the environment you are swimming in. Factors such as temperature, currents, waves, and underwater hazards can affect your swimming ability and safety.

  • Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how your body feels while swimming. If you feel uncomfortable or in pain, stop swimming and take a break. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Swim with a Buddy

Never swim alone! It's important to have someone with you while swimming, preferably with someone who knows how to swim or can call for help if something happens. A buddy system ensures that if you get tired or need assistance, there is someone there to help you.

Prepare for Deep Water

  2. Put your arms through the armholes and fasten the straps or buckles around your waist.
  3. Tighten the straps or buckles so that the life jacket feels snug but not too tight.
  4. Zip up the jacket and make sure it covers your chest and upper back.

Once you have found a life jacket that fits properly, try the life jacket in shallow water to make sure it keeps your head above water.
